"Where Black Excellence Connects" - Profiles In Black

“Profiles in Black” is the official storytelling space of MSU Black Alumni—where legacy and Black Excellence Connects. This blog highlights the journeys, milestones, and impact of our community through member spotlights, career achievements, business launches, anniversary celebrations, job announcements, and notable accomplishments.

We also honor and remember those we’ve lost, celebrating the lives and legacies that helped pave the way.

From campus memories to global moves, Profiles in Black is where Spartan pride and Black excellence live on—loud, proud, and forever connected.

"Profiles in Black" was a television series/segment produced starting in the early 1970s that highlighted the lives of well-known African Americans and provided positive role models during a time when mainstream television often portrayed negative stereotypes. It was a syndicated 10-year series.  

Based on search results, "Profiles in Black Leadership" is a current, separate series on Fox 13 Seattle. Other similar, distinct initiatives found include:

  • "Profiles in Black Miami": A project by current and former CBS Miami employees focusing on local Black history.
  • "America in Black": A monthly one-hour-prime-time newsmagazine from BET and CBS News.
  • The historical 1970s Profiles in Black series focused on providing positive, in-depth stories about Black Professionals.
